Rickie Byrd, age 58, of the Cane River Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at his home.
A native of Washington County, TN, he was a son of the late Jack and Dorothy Lowery Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Byrd; sisters: Susie Hedrick and Gail Peterson; infant brother and a brother-in-law, Clifton McCurry.
Rickie was a humble, laid-back jokester. His wife was his best friend. Rickie always put his family first and helped everyone.
Surviving are his daughters: Kisha Byrd Joyner and husband, Daniel, of Cane River, Jackie Byrd of Cane River and Heather Connell and husband, Cody, of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren: Dennis, Bryson and Jackson, Scout and Sunni and siblings: Rita Prince and husband, Herbert, of Marion, Trudy McCurry of Marion, Sally Hedrick and husband, Melvin, of Cane River and Grady Byrd of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members as well as his special friends at the Madison Carp Pond also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ralph Hedrick and Rev. Bobby Sprinkle will officiate. Burial will follow in the Byrd Cemetery at Piney Hill. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
