Marty Guy Phillips

Marty Guy Phillips, age 59, of the Horton Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Yancey County, he was the son of Genevie Hensley Phillips of Horton Creek and the late Guy Phillips.  He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mack and Cinda Hensley and paternal grandparents, Elmer and Kate Phillips.

Marty was an analytical chemist that worked at Unimin for 35 years.   He was an avid Tar Heel and Atlanta Braves fan.  He loved grilling and spending time with his family.  Marty was an amazing husband, father, and son who loved his family dearly.

Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years, Amanda Bradley Phillips; his son, Matthew Guy Phillips of Burnsville; sister, Sandra Newberry of Burnsville; Brian Staab of Maryland, who he thought of as a son; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ray and Joanne Bradley of Sylva; sister-in-law, Lois Graham of Maryland; brothers-in-law, Mark Bradley of Waynesville, Pete Bradley of High Point, and John Bradley of Sylva; nieces and nephews: Kayla Newberry (EJ), Rachel Newberry (Ales), Tyler Bradley, Elizabeth Bradley, Marshall Bradley, Caleb Bradley (Harley), Trevor Bradley (Michaela) and Chase Bradley (Alexis); his best friend, Melvin Henson; and his fur babies, Sadie and Zeus.  Many great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with Sam Ball and Steve Robinson officiating.
