Dock “Dockie” Renfro, age 67, of the Crabtree Community, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Mitchell County he was a son of the late Cephas and Willean Riddle Renfro. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Maxon. Dock was a simple man who enjoyed roaming the mountains gathering ginseng, log moss and smoke vine. He especially enjoyed playing basketball and watching his son, Derrick, play and attend his games. He was a strong, humble, giving and kind man who will be dearly missed. Dock always put his family first and loved his coffee and “sweetening”.
Surviving is his son, Derrick Renfro of Estatoe; daughters: Ashley Renfro Maxon and husband, Richard, of Burnsville and Jessica Renfro of Spruce Pine; grandchildren: Gunner and Logan; step-mother, Frances Renfro of Spruce Pine; brothers: Lloyd Harris and wife, Essie, of Morganton, Keith Renfro and wife, Louise, of Spruce Pine, Robert Renfro and wife, Ellen, of Crabtree and Rodney Renfro and wife, Patsy, of Marion and best friends: Tony Honeycutt, David Chrisawn and Fritz Young. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday May 11th in Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Cephas Renfro will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery following the services. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Maxon, Randy Burleson, Fritz Young, Zack Reed, Josh Warren, Aaron Sparks, Wade Renfro, Adam Sparks, David Chrisawn and Jerry Willis.
