James “Jim” Beers

James “Jim” Beers, age 77, of Clyde, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at home with his wife by his side.  A native of Latrobe, PA, he was a son of the late Don and Hazel Watson Beers.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School in Altoona, PA.  He went on to Penn State and received his accounting degree before joining the US Army.  He went to Officers Candidate School and became a Captain in the 1st Calvary in the Vietnam Era.  Discharged on November 16, 1968, he went to Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY, where he was also a volunteer firefighter at Lakeside Fire Department.  He then moved to Wilkesboro, NC then to Spruce Pine, NC where he was the manager of Sky City.  It was there that he met Janice and they fell in love.  They married and lived a wonderful life together for over 46 years.  He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and great wit.  He and Janice were members of Clyde Central United Methodist Church. He was a former lay speaker in the Newdale Charge to include Martins Chapel, Windom and Celo United Methodist Churches.  Jim loved flower gardening and yard work, but his greatest love was his family.

Surviving is his loving wife of almost 47 years, Janice Beaver Beers; children: Andrew Beers and wife, Dawn, of Wichita, KS and Sarah Falduto and husband, James, of Waynesville; grandchildren: Alex Beers, Spencer Beers, Lindsay Falduto and Zachary Falduto and his canine companion, Maggie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 12th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Tim Beaver will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Will Young Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
