Robin Teresa Boone Brewer, age 59, of NC Hwy 80 in Bakersville, the Rebels Creek community, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 12, 2022 while visiting the beautiful shores of Orange Beach, AL.
Born on February 27, 1963 in Mitchell County, she was the oldest of five children of the late Paul Boone and Yvonne Young Boone who still survives in the Rebels Creek community. Chris, Pat, Angie, and Ryan will miss their loud, loving, fearless sister more than words can express.
Teresa was a 1981 graduate of Mitchell High School where she served as drum major and won many dance competitions though she never had a single lesson. She loved animals of all kinds and was known to save a spider at the protest of many others. Teresa had a special bond with the elderly and was a caregiver for many that others were not able to handle. She had the gift of making everyone feel comfortable, loved and accepted. She was also known to speak her mind even at the risk of making other people mad. No one ever had to wonder what she was thinking because she was saying it. She was a fierce and loyal friend to more than can be counted.
Teresa was a Breast Cancer survivor and she faced her diagnosis like a boss; she shaved her hair into a mowhawk and then dyed it pink. At the age of thirty-eight she went back to school for Law Enforcement and served as a Deputy at Mars Hill College for three years before going to work at the family business until her passing.
Teresa and her husband, Sid were known as the “ushers of Christmas.” She loved Christmas and everything about it, sometimes dressing up as one of Santa’s elves. She started decorating in mid-October and had as many as seven Christmas trees in her house at one time. Come Thanksgiving night, people from near and far drove Highway 80 to see that Christmas had arrived. They won the Mountain Trail of Christmas Lights in 2021. The Griswolds have nothing on the Brewers.
Teresa felt most at home at the beach. She loved the water and the heat and would search for sand dollars for hours. Her husband, Sid says there were many nights on vacation where he would find her sitting on the balcony listening to the crashing waves. She also loved slot car racing, drag racing, and supporting her son Hayden’s band wherever they would travel.
Teresa crammed many, many memories into her short fifty-nine years of life and lived it to the fullest. Her family is forever changed with her passing and to say she will be missed doesn’t convey the loss they all feel.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of thirty-two years; Sid Brewer of the home; her sons; Hayden Brewer (Katie) of Spruce Pine and Mike Brewer (Heather) of Newland; and her daughter, Tellsa of Louisiana and her mother; Yvonne Y. Boone of Bakersville. She was a proud ‘Granny’ to four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also Auntie and Great Auntie to many nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law to Joyce Brewer and the late, James Brewer.
The family will meet and great family and friends and celebrate the life of Teresa on Monday, May 16, 2022 beginning at 5:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home. A private family service will be held later.
