Karen (Katie) Kay Cole, 64, of Bakersville, NC, the Fork Mountain Community, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in the Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Ancle and Shelby Jean Ollis Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Maggie Young. Katie was a retired court clerk for the Mitchell County Court System and she catered many events and was well known for her beautiful wedding cakes. Katie also loved her farm animals, sewing and reading, but more than anything, she loved her kids and grandkids. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she was of the Baptist Faith.
Katie is survived by her husband, John Cole of their home; daughter, Amy Young (Brannon), and son, Adam Woody (Becky) all of Bakersville, and Shaina Burleson (Coty) of Green Mountain; sister, Carolyn McKinney (Claude) of Bakersville; grandchildren: Evan Briggs, Ayden Woody, Mayce Woody, Hunter Burleson and Harper Burleson; niece, Jennifer Parker (Shane) and great niece, Kendal Parker.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2022 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Cannon and Rev. Todd Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the Phillips Cemetery, Roy Greene Drive, Bakersville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maggie Rae Young Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o United Community Bank, 54 N Mitchell Ave, Bakersville, NC 28705.
