J. T. Fox

J. T. Fox, age 93, of Burnsville, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, with his wife, Betty, reuniting with him four days later on Monday, June 6th, 2022.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Willard “Wid” and Vivian Hensley Fox. He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tammy McDowell Fox and brothers: Roy Lee Fox, Frank Fox, Glen Elbert Fox and infant brothers: John and Cecil Fox.

J. T. was a 1947 graduate of Burnsville High School. He then went to Gastonia and attended Gaston College. After college, he worked with Glen Raven Mills until he was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he drove a truck for McLean Trucking Company. He and his wife, Betty, then operated Burnsville’s Sears Catalog Company for 12 years from 1971 until 1983. He later worked as a mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement.

Surviving are two sons: Randy Fox and wife, Tammy, and Russ Fox, all of Burnsville; two grandsons: Justin Fox and wife, Tabitha, of Burnsville, and Alex Warren and fiancée, Nicole, also of Burnsville; great-grandchildren: Atalie Jaymes Fox, Kelston Noah Fox, Ben Warren and Jillian Warren; brother, William Carter “Widgie” Fox and wife, Virginia, of Burnsville and special friend, Tammy Renae Cole. Several other extended family also survive.

A combined funeral service will be held for J. T. and his wife, Betty, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 12th at West Burnsville Baptist Church. Rev. Ricky Ray will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service. A Military Honors Graveside Service will be following the services in the McCracken Cemetery, conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph, Chapter #57 D.A.V.
