A tractor trailer crash led to one person being airlifted from the scene Tuesday evening, June 7th. Part of Coxes Creek Mtn on Highway 226 in McDowell County was closed around 7 pm. The accident occurred north of Woodlawn near John Sr. Drive.
McDowell County Emergency Services Director William Kehler said a tractor trailer hauling pellets, crashed on the roadway and one driver was pinned in the crash. Emergency personnel were able to extricate the person from the crash and they were transported to a landing zone where Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) then flew the patient to Mission Hospital’s trauma center in Asheville. No further details are available at this time.
