They began teaching school in Walterboro, SC, and lived in Fort Mill, SC, Georgetown, SC, Spartanburg, SC and Fort Worth, TX, before moving back to Plumtree. Janice was the ideal pastor’s wife as she and Wally served Plumtree and Buck Hill Presbyterian Churches for twenty years, and Rebels Creek Baptist Church in Mitchell County for eight years. Janice conducted a widely acclaimed Easter pageant at Plumtree for many years. She served many elementary schools in Avery County and in Buladean in extended substitute roles.
