Lee Whitson, age 78, of Pate Creek Rd., Green Mountain, NC, went home to be with the Lord June 18, 2022. A native of Mitchell County, NC Lee was a son of the late Calvin and Nerva Barnett Whitson.
He was retired as a long distance truck driver with ABF Freight System and was a member of Teamster Union in Fletcher, NC. He was a member of Upper Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church and was also a member of Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM. Lee enjoyed hunting and loved spending time at his cabin “out on the mountain”.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years Chloe Williams Whitson, two sons; David Lee Whitson (Melissa), of Green Mountain, NC, and Brian Keith Whitson (Kathy), of Asheville, NC, two sisters; Shirley Hughes, of Bakersville, NC, and Darlena Miller (Joel), of Johnson City, TN, two grandchildren; Faith Whitson, and Millicent McKinney, two great grandchildren; Kallie, and Melodi, and a special niece Arlena Renfro, of Johnson City, TN.
Lee was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his brothers; Cas, Starlin, Charles, Farrell, and Ray Whitson, and his sisters; Alma Whitson, Mary Ray, and Mae Barnett.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home with Reverend David Garland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Masonic Rites will be provided by Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM. Interment will follow the service at Whitson Garland Cemetery.
