Phil R. Thomas, Jr

Phil R. Thomas, Jr., age 80, of Water Street in Bakersville, the Bandana community passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at his home.

Born on July 14, 1941 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Phil Thomas, Sr. and the late Evelyn Hensley Thomas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended the Mine Creek Baptist Church.

Phil was a 1963 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Holly Farms as the Vice President of Virginia Operations. He also worked for Nascar Hall of Fame owner Bud Moore Racing. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting and playing golf.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-eight years; Betty Wiseman Thomas of the home; his sons; Allen Thomas of Bakersville and Kevin Thomas and wife, Lisa of Richmond, VA; his grandchildren; Nathaniel Thomas of Gastonia; Alex Thomas of Charlotte and Mary Beth Thomas of Raleigh; his sister-in-law; Emma Boone and husband, Paul of Newland and his aunt; Carolyn Livingston of Bakersville.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Phil Thomas, Jr. on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 4:00 pm at the Mine Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Chris Rathbone, Mark McKinney and Russell McKinney officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Mine Creek Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Silver Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
