FFA Attends State Convention

Last week the FFA traveled to the 93rd annual North Carolina State FFA Convention and Expo. While there students explored college and career opportunities, met other FFA members from across the state and competed in various competitions. The results from the competitions are as follows.

Agscience Fair
Agscience fair is an event in which students work to solve an issue in agriculture by using the scientific method. Students create and conduct a scientific experiment to test their hypothesis, then they must write a paper about their project, create a poster/ visual guide of what they learned, and interview with three judges about their project.


This year  competed in the Environmental and Natural Resource systems, Division 6. We are excited to announce that they placed 1st in the State and will be continuing on to compete at the National level!

The Jim Graham Cree Speaking Contest
This is an event in which first year FFA members recite all 5 paragraphs of the FFA creed from memory, and then are asked a series of questions about the creed, FFA and agriculture.

Macy Carroll represented Mountain Heritage very well in this contest. Macy placed 2nd in the West region and within the top 10% of the state!

Nursery Landscape
This Career Development event is designed to help prepare students for a career in the horticulture industry. Through this event students must learn how to identify over 60 plant species, common plant pests and diseases, and how to read and apply a landscape plan.

This year we had a team of 3 students, Emma Dotts, Dakota Laws and Emmy Norton compete in this event. They Placed 3rd in the West Region in this event!

Quiz Bowl
This event is designed to test first year FFA members on their knowledge of FFA, and agriculture. This is a fast pace buzz-in event that requires students to think fast on their feet.

This year’s team consisted of Macy Carroll, Makenlie Pate, Autumn Smith and Noah Williams. This team placed 2nd in their division!
