Triple Shooting Leads To 3 Dead in Avery County

 

A triple shooting left three people dead Monday night, June 27th in Newland, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s office. Deputies received a call from a home on Rhododendron Run around 5:30 p.m. regarding a shooting. Due to the distance of the scene, which was close to the Avery County line, Burke County deputies requested assistance from the Avery county Sheriff’s Department.

When the Burke County deputies arrived, they found Avery County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and first responders on the scene. Two Avery County EMS units were preparing to take two people who had been shot to an area hospital.

The preliminary investigation found three people had been shot related to a domestic incident, deputies say.

Polly Ann Keller, age 56, died at the home, where she had been living.

Jeremy Dean Clark, age 32, and Anthony Simon Franklin, age 33, died on their way to the hospital.

Deputies say two of the three individuals fired shots, but did not confirm their names. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Department detectives are continuing the investigation and will share their results with the District Attorney when the investigation is completed. Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Avery County Sheriff’s Office, Avery County EMS, Burke County EMS and other First Responders were all involved in the incident.
