Mitchell County Animal Rescue Receives $15,000 Grant From Petco Love

Mitchell County Animal Rescue has received a $15,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for animals in Mitchell County.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $330 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.5 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in Mitchell County Animal Rescue is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently celebrated the one-year launch anniversary of Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet facial recognition technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of a $15,000 grant from Petco Love to support two of our biggest needs. $10,000 will be allotted for adoption preparation. This fund will purchase vaccines, microchips, flea preventative, medicines, and pay for spay/neuter surgeries for adoptable pets at MCAR. Preparing healthy, happy pets for their forever homes is at the heart of what we do at MCAR.  $5,000 will be allotted to our Community Cares Spay/Neuter Fund to offer free spay/neuter, vaccines and microchipping for qualifying family pets in Mitchell County. Spay/ Neuter is the only solution to pet overpopulation in our county. We have partnered with Petco Love in the past and are excited to witness the impact this grant will have on our community!” – Amber Lowery, Executive Director, MCAR

 About MCAR

Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc. (MCAR) is a not-for-profit humane organization, contracted by the county to operate the animal shelter. Nearly 40 years ago, MCAR started as a grassroots movement to care for the great number of abandoned animals in Mitchell County. Last year alone, MCAR cared for 1,071 animals, and had a Save Rate of 90%!

We work closely with local vets and have created the Have Mercy Fund for shelter animals with special medical needs, as well as the Community Care Spay/Neuter Fund to make surgery affordable for shelter and community pets in need.  Our Pet Food Bank is available to any Mitchell County resident in need of pet food. We are deeply humbled and privileged to be part of the community of animal advocates in Mitchell County and beyond.
