Mitchell County will welcome a new Director of Economic Development on August 1st. Mitchell County native Matthew Ward will begin his new job guiding the county to promote its assets as a great place to live, work and operate a business. Ward has worked for several government organizations with urban planning and community revitalization. He is a North Carolina Certified Zoning Official and has and American Institute of Certified Planners Certification through the American Planning Association. He holds a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University.
