Just after 4:30 pm, Monday afternoon Yancey County Deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired inside a residence in the Jacks Creek Area. While en route to the location dispatch advised deputies, there was a report of one person with a gunshot wound. After the deputies arrived more shots were fired.
The suspect was shot by Deputies during the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene. When deputies were able to get inside the residence, they found three people deceased. No deputies were injured during the incident.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard called in the SBI to assist in the investigation and advised the investigation is ongoing and more information may be released at a later time.
