Deputy Barnett Earns Advanced Certificates

Yancey County Sheriff Office’s Deputy Gerald Barnett was presented the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and the School Resource Officer Certificate by Sheriff Shane Hilliard on June 20th, 2022.  Deputy Barnett earned the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate through the North Carolina Sheriff Education and Training Standards Commission and the School Resource Officer Certificate Program through The North Carolina Justice Academy.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate is designed to reward and recognize officers who continually strive to better themselves professionally, by attending various schools and training sessions, above and beyond what is mandated by North Carolina. Deputy Barnett has completed many hours of Commission approved law enforcement training to achieve his certificate.

The School Resource Officer Certificate Program is designed specifically for sworn law enforcement officers assigned as School Resource Officers, who desire to increase their training, experience, and credentials. The courses selected for the program recognize that an SRO is often required to perform traditional patrol responsibilities in addition to their school-related duties. The total requirement for the completion of the program is 400 class hours.

Sheriff Shane Hilliard congratulated and thanked Deputy Barnett for his dedication to law enforcement professionalism by achieving his Advanced Certificate and his dedication to the schools of Yancey County by completing the School Resource Officer Certificate.

“We are very fortunate to have such dedicated individuals working at the Sheriff’s Office.” said Sheriff Hilliard. “We appreciate all the time and hard work it takes to achieve both of these Certificates.”
