Debra Gail Wheeler, age 65, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 25th, 2022. A native of Burnsville, she was a daughter of the late Everette and Ruth Barnett Bryant. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Ryan Wheeler; brother, Dexter Bryant; a sister, Kathy Bryant; and sister-in-law, Brenda Bryant.
Debra enjoyed watching movies and, without fail, was always listening to gospel music and preaching. She loved taking trips to the beach, hiking, and living in these beautiful NC mountains, especially seeing them during the fall season. Her greatest love in life was her family and friends with whom she loved spending time, and there was a special place in her heart for Amber and Jacob who she helped raise.
Surviving is her loving husband of 34 years, David Wheeler; special grandchild, Amber Marie Wheeler of Morganton; three brothers: Stanley Bryant of Burnsville, Lynn “Bear” Bryant and wife, Lisa, and Michael Bryant and wife, Shari, all of Erwin, TN; four aunts: Dorothy Cooper of Burnsville and Peggy Bennett, Pat Harrell and Sarah McCurry, all of Erwin, TN; an uncle, Everette Barnett of Erwin; sister-in-law, Regina Bryant of Marion; special nieces: Mista, Marenda, Ashley, Michele, Tiffany and Julie; nephew, Cameron; and special great-nephew, Jacob.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, August 29th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Keith Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Boyd Wheeler Cemetery on Pine Swamp. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to funeral services at the funeral home.
