Jerry Wayne Helton, age 71, of Roaring Creek, passed away on Friday, August 26th, 2022 at his home. A native of McDowell County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Myrtle Loftis Helton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mike Helton; a sister, Brenda Loftis; brother-in-law, Perry Hopson; and sister-in-law, Paulette Hughes.
Jerry was a people person and his family and friends were the most important things in life to him. When it came to anything mechanical, there was nothing he couldn’t do, and people knew they could go to Jerry Helton to fix it. He will surely be missed, not only as a dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, but also as a true friend.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nadine Hopson Hilton; three sons: Jerry Shad Helton of Roaring Creek, Richie Wayne Helton (Jessie) of Spruce Pine, and Ray Howell (Janel) of Roaring Creek; six grandchildren: Jerry Ethan Helton (Erin), Alexis Helton, Jerry Justin Helton (Emily), Riley Helton, Heather Howell and Desarae Howell; three great-grandchildren: Carmon Helton, Cameron Mitchell and Ava Grace Helton; and a sister-in-law, Brickie Pittman (Joe). Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th at People’s Church on Roaring Creek. Rev. Chris Nance and Rev. Daniel Nance will officiate. Burial will follow in the Helton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
