Bobby “Bob” Proffitt

Bob Proffitt was a loving, caring husband and father who lived his faith each day. His love of people and Mother Nature always showed through his smiles. He passed peacefully at home in Burnsville, NC on August 27, 2022.

Bob was born September 26, 1936 to Samuel “Vance” Proffitt and Matilda Buchanan Proffitt. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Thomas Edward “Ed” Proffitt, Samuel Vance “Junior” Proffitt, Jr (Jo Evelyn) and William “Bill” Proffitt (Marie); nephew, Dale Proffitt; brothers-in-law: Albert Lavagnino, Euranious Robinson, John Giles, Joseph Daigler, Jim Owens and sister-in-law, Jane Robinson, along with several other nephews and nieces.

Living in Burnsville the majority of his life, he graduated from Burnsville High School, Class of 1955, where he enjoyed the many class reunions over many years. While he worked in varied industry and businesses, his greatest joy was Owner/Operator of Wagon Wheel and AmberJack Restaurants, where he had a loyal clientele. Another great love was farming, operating his tractor, being outside with Mother Nature, and watching his deer. Bob retired from Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department after 21 years of active service.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Wanda J. Proffitt; son, Robert Proffitt (Rita); daughter, Amy Troutman (Greg); grandchildren: Kirby Troutman, Dustin Proffitt, Luke Troutman (Elissa), Marla Almaguer (Rob) and Luke Means (Sierra); brother, John Proffitt; sister, Betty Lavagnino; sisters-in-law: Katherine Owens, Georgia Daigler, Gladys Giles, Lola Stanley, Willa Dean Robinson and brother-in-law, Alton Robinson, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services with Rev. Kent Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Lelia Randolph Buchanan Cemetery in Bakersville.
