Dorothy Jane King Grindstaff

Dorothy Jane King Grindstaff, age 90, of Snow Creek Road in Bakersville, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 at her home.

Born on November 26, 1931 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Essie Tipton King. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Grindstaff who passed away in 1975. She was also preceded in death by a son, Earl Ray Grindstaff, a grandson, Andrew Jerry Grindstaff, her daughter-in-law, Aleshia Grindstaff; her sisters; Mary Louise King, Willie Mae Raby, and Dora Willis; and her brothers; Brown and James King.

Dorothy was a member of the Lily Branch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and led the choir. She loved attending and being a part of her church and church family. She also loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed quilting, working in her garden and flowers and going to yard sales.

Left to cherish her memory is her sons; Sammy Grindstaff and wife, Deb of Bakersville; Johnny Grindstaff and wife, Lou Ellen of Micaville; Danny Grindstaff and wife, Lisa of Bakersville and Dennis Grindstaff and wife, Regina of Bakersville; her daughters; Carolyn Yelton and husband, Larry of Bakersville and Joyce Woody and husband, Kenneth of Bakersville; her sister; Barbara Brummitt of Spruce Pine; her brother, Howard King and wife, Frances of Kernersville, NC; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and one special little girl.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Dorothy Grindstaff on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Lily Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Ford officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Lily Branch Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their wonderful care of Dorothy.
