Gladys Fox McKinney, age 96, of Green Mountain, passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Wash and Esther Laughrun Fox. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: T.H. Sherman Fox and wife, Ruth, and J.D. Fox; two sisters: Vaughtie Roberts and husband, Paul, and Marjorie Hilemon and husband, Fred; as well as two brothers-in-law: Bobby English and Tom Ayers.
Gladys was a very caring and Godly lady. She spent many years working in several sewing factories. She also found great joy in being a babysitter for more than 70 children in her community. Tracing family trees was also near and dear to her heart.
Surviving is her loving husband and best friend of 60 years, Eugene McKinney; two sisters: Tennie English and Robbie Ayers; brother, Clyde Fox (Brenda), all of Green Mountain; sister-in-law, Jean Fox of Asheville; and special friends: Roger and Teresa Buchanan, Jeff Scott, Grant Blankenship and Larry Fox. Several nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Roger Hilemon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Scott, Roger Buchanan, Michael Ayers and Charles Fender.
