According to Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street, the plans are in the works for a new home for the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office. Quality Plus Apparel, the old clothing plant across from the Bakersville Fire Department, is the new planned location. Five million dollars in grant money is slated for this project so it will not affect local taxpayers. Funds will be used to purchase the building, remodel, and furnishing the office. This property will house the offices and could accommodate a few holding cells but is not set to be a full size jail.
