Yancey Woman Killed in Accident; Husband Seriously Injured

A Yancey County woman was killed Sunday, September 18th and her husband was seriously wounded in a 3-vehicle crash in Tennessee. The accident happened around 4:50 pm in a Crossroads parking lot off Highway 81 in Jonesborough. The crash involved a Mazda CX9 SUV that was  traveling south on Highway 81, and a Dodge 2500 truck had been traveling north when the Mazda reportedly attempted to turn onto 81 Loop which put it into the path of the Dodge truck, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol. The impact sent the Mazda SUV into the Crossroads parking lot, where it hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle, pinning Monica Vance of Burnsville under the SUV. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report Vance died from her injuries. Her husband, Scot Vance, who was also near the motorcycle, was seriously injured. A juvenile passenger in the Mazda SUV; a passenger in the Dodge truck; and the driver of the Mazda also sustained injuries. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report the driver of the Mazda was Sheri Sanders of Greenville, TN. Citations and charges against Sanders are pending.
