Phillip Woody

Phillip Woody, age 86, of David Clay Lane in Newland, the Roaring Creek community, passed away, Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Greens at Spruce Pine, formerly Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation in Spruce Pine.

Born on January 24, 1936 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Grayson and Ada King Woody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Frank and Jim Woody and his sisters; Bell Woody, Jewell Taylor, Lucille Conley, and Emadora Beam.

Phillip was a member of the McCoury’s Rock Freewill Baptist Church. He was retired from Banner’s Cabinets after thirty-two years. He loved helping his friends and neighbors, often plowing their gardens at no charge. He also loved singing and sang in several quartets. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Effie Hughes Woody of the home; his sisters-in-law; Kay Freeman of Spruce Pine; Helen Burleson of Newland; Myrtle Billings of Maryland; Estella Wilson of Waxhaw; Minnie and Trula Hughes of Newland special nephew; Greg Freeman of Newland; several additional nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and interment will be on Saturday. September 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the Hughes Cemetery on Jerry’s Creek Road.
