George William Burckley

George William Burckley, age 78, passed peacefully on August 29, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Raised in the small town of Walden NY, hard work, community and family were always the utmost of importance to George. Attending Valley Central High School, he excelled in sports, lettering three times while always working several part-time jobs to assist his family. George married his high school sweetheart, Diane. He graduated from Cobleskill SUNY with a degree in horticulture.

George was a successful entrepreneur, owning his own landscape and design company in Seminole, FL. He was an incredibly wonderful father to his children, later becoming a wonderful grandfather as well.

George and Diane enjoyed traveling to beautiful places throughout America, including one special trip abroad. Diane was the love of his life and they shared many laughs and adventures together, always holding hands.

Settling in Burnsville, NC was a true joy for George. He loved working on the mountainside, chopping wood, making Christmas wreaths, and playing an active role in his community. His smiling greeting of “Hi Bud” or “Heeey Buddy” came from the heart and he always made time to help a friend.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Diane Burckley; two daughters: Denise Collier and Annette Burckley; son-in-law, Josh Bruton; grandson, Logan Collier, and many dear friends he considered family.

A time to celebrate George’s life will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 22nd at Yancey Funeral Services. Words, remembrances of George, and prayer will begin around 7 p.m., led by Dr. Reavis Eubanks. Prior to arriving to celebrate “A Full Life Led”, one is encouraged to write down a memory or words of love about George and place them in the memory bowl which will be provided.  If one wishes to wait until the gathering of family and friends, cards will be provided to express your sentiments.  As George would have loved, memorials may include an act of kindness, a memorial to the charity of one’s choice, or flowers to commemorate his life.
