Mitchell County Tourism Development Board Announced

The board for the new Mitchell County Tourism Development Authority has been announced. The board will decide how to use the existing occupancy tax that is charged to Airbnb and hotels.  The occupancy tax funds are used to create incentives to bring development and more tourism to Mitchell County.  The new Board of Directors are: Mitchell County Commissioner Harley Masters, owner of Southern Ridge Cafe will represent the Mitchell Commissioners, Whitney Buchanan Ledford of the Little Switzerland Chalet, will hold a Occupancy Tax Payer Seat, Joe Glenn of Springmaid Mountain Resort will represent another Occupancy Tax Payer Seat and Misty Self of  Tree House Realty & Airbnb  will hold another Occupancy Tax Payer Seat.  Sharon Rowland, Co-Founder of Bakersville Area Merchants Association will hold a Tourism Seat,  Mitchell County Economic Development Director Matt Ward a Tourism Seat, Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce Director Mandi Buchanan Polly a Tourism Seat and Spruce Pine Main Street Director Libby Phillips a Tourism Seat.
