The body of a man reported missing was found at the base of a cliff in Grandfather Mountain State Park Sunday morning.
Around 10 a.m. Sunday, search and rescue crews were dispatched from Grandfather Mountain following an emergency call reporting a missing person who was last seen at one of the park’s overlooks.
Search and rescue efforts led crews to locate a deceased adult male at the base of a cliff, where they recovered the body.
The Avery County Sheriff’s Office said the incident appears to be an accidental fall that resulted in a fatality, and that nothing indicates otherwise as an investigation is ongoing.
The victim’s name has not been released at this time.
