Harold Burdette Butner

Harold Burdette Butner, age 95, of Burnsville, passed peacefully in his own home on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022.

A native and lifelong resident of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Thomas Blaine and Sallie Beaver Butner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nina Hylemon Butner, who passed away in 2017; daughter, Daphne Gail Shehan, who passed away also in 2017, and siblings: Frank “Boog” Butner, George “Chick” Butner, Lawrence “Woody” Butner, Blaine Butner and Daphne Smith.

Harold began working on cars at the age of fifteen and worked on them until he was ninety. He loved sports cars and was a racer himself in his younger years. He also enjoyed softball very much as well. Harold was a U.S. Navy Veteran, had retired with Burnsville Fire Department after twenty-five years of service, and was a member of First Baptist Church Burnsville, where he was the oldest member, former deacon, and greeter.

Left to cherish his memories are his children: Lynn Elliott (Mike) of Ledger and Bryan Butner of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren: Chris Buchanan, Chad Buchanan, Tony Yaccarino, Bryce Butner, Alexa Butner, Kyle Shehan and Sydney Shehan, and six great-grandchildren. Several other extended family also survive, including nephew, Dwight Butner and niece, Debbie Briggs.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th at Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Tommy James will officiate.
