NC Wildlife Commission Warns Of Deer Crossing Highways

The North Carolina  Wildlife Resources Commission is warning NC residents that with Daylight Saving Time changes plus deer mating season there is increased danger of deer crossing highways causing for vehicle collisions.

They recommend the following tips to help stay safe on the roads this fall:

  • Slow down in deer crossing zones and wooded areas, especially in the evening.
  • Remember that deer often travel in groups, expect one to be followed by others.
  • Slow down and blow your horn with one long blast to frighten deer away.
  • If you hit a deer, do not touch the animal. A frightened, injured deer can hurt you or further injure itself. Move your car off the road, if possible, and call 911.
