Harry R. Callahan, 81, of Burnsville NC, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Madison Health and Rehabilitation in Mars Hill NC.
Born in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Henry and Marie Callahan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved partner of 47 years, Art Anderson. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burnsville.
Surviving are his cousins Brian Lowery (Cathy), Daniel Lowery (Courtney), Anna Daniel (Brandon), Atticus Lowery, Harper Lowery, Ripley Lowery, Liam Daniel and a host of loving friends.
Harry was a graduate of Rutgers University and obtained a Masters Degree in Drama from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. His sense of humor and love of art and the theater was evident in his work as Technical Director of the Raleigh Little Theater from 1965-1971 and Chairman of the Drama Department at St Mary’s College in Raleigh, NC from 1971-1992. He and Art retired and moved to Burnsville in 1992.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Madison Health, Hospice of the Blue Ridge, and to Lee Horsman.
A private burial service will be held at a later date.
