Grace Gibbs Simmons

Grace Gibbs Simmons, age 83, affectionately called “Grandmama” by all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, went Home to her heavenly garden on December 15, 2022.  Family was very close to her heart.  She was married for 62 loving years to James David Simmons of South Toe where they raised their two daughters.

Born to the late Edward and Lula Gibbs of Celo, she was also preceded in death by her siblings: Edward Gibbs, Mildred Harris, Ray Gibbs, Marie Johnson, Dail Gibbs, Nell Huskins and Nina Johnson.  Grace was the last to take a seat at the table with her family in Heaven.  We all can see each of your smiling faces and hear your laughter!  Grace was first and foremost a dedicated wife to James and loving mother to Tammy Simmons Black (Mike) and Karen Simmons Brown (Ronnie), and a devoted Grandmama to Morgan (Justin), Zachary (Megan), and Bailey. They all brought her tremendous joy, including her most recent addition, Lawson James West, her first and only great-grandchild, born in 2021. Grace cherished every moment with Lawson, and was best known to him as “Me-Mama.” She will be greatly missed by many special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Grace was an active and lifelong member of Browns Creek Baptist Church. If you knew Grace, you knew her faith was her foundation and strength. She never missed a chance to witness to you in words, flowers or good deeds. Grace’s other passion was her garden. She took great pride in having beautiful flowers which she loved to share. You never had to guess where you stood with Grace; she would be sure and tell you exactly what was on her mind, but she would let you know with grace in every word. Grandmama will be dearly missed for her humor, beautiful flowers and her deviled eggs. She will remain in the hearts of her family and friends with every memory cherished.

The family will have a private graveside service to celebrate Grace’s life.

If you wish to make any type of donation in memory of Grace Gibbs Simmons, she would love others to see the joy of a garden and beautiful flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the landscaping for the new Browns Creek Baptist Church that is soon to begin construction. Donations may be mailed to Browns Creek Baptist Church, in care of Marcia Huskins at 880 Rolling Ridge Loop, Burnsville, NC 28714, or visit https://app.autobooks.co/pay/browns-creek-baptist-church.
