Some Parts Of The Blue Ridge Parkway Open

The coming weekend forecast may lead people to wanting to get out into nature. Some parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway have been closed due to weather and for maintenance but now people can get out and hike along the road in a few sections. Most visitor centers and park stores have closed for the winter. The Folk Art Center and Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center remain open year-round. The  North Carolina Museum of Minerals near Spruce Pine, which normally stays open, is closed this year. Campgrounds and most picnic areas are closed for the winter, but trails and back country campsites are open.
