Alice Kathleen Crain, age 93, of the Fox Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2023. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Back and Ida Mae Angel Mathis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Crain; daughter, Gustie Maxine Crain; 4 brothers: Clayton, Coy, Troy, and Charles Mathis and 3 sisters: Eunice Hensley, Betty Lou McCurry, and Maphria Shepherd.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Gus D. Crain (Karen), Jimmy Crain (Debbie), Horace Crain, Jerry “Brute” Crain, and Clifford Crain (Susan); daughters: Judy C. Vargas, Linda Carroll, and Edyth Hubbard; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and 5 great, great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2 p.m in the Roy Crain Cemetery. Pastor David Teafatiller will officiate.
