Mary “Van” Evangeline Thomas, age 83, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2023. A native of Sugar Grove, she was the daughter of the late Luther “Bill” Jordan and Elba Cleo Ward Shull. Van adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved music, playing the piano, and singing in the choir. She played piano for multiple gospel groups in our area. She had an extensive nursing career, working in hospitals and doctors office settings throughout her time.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 63 years, Robert “Bob” Thomas; daughter, Vanessa Fox and husband, Larry of Newdale; grandchildren: Robert Fox and wife, April of Bakersville and Keisha Chrisawn and husband, Kris of Bald Creek and great-grandchildren: Landon, Jocelyn, Katelyn, and Karter.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Victory Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Greer-Glenn Cemetery in Sugar Grove, NC. Barry Jenkins will officiate.
