Ivan Edward Hoilman

Ivan Edward Hoilman, age 74, of the Roaring Creek Community, passed away on Monday, January 23rd, 2023 at his home.

A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Jake and Ruth Buchanan Hoilman.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Hughes Hoilman; brother, Lambert Hoilman, along with his special dog, Copper.

Ivan was a 4th Infantry US Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was the first detective in Avery County.  His favorite pastime was hunting.  He enjoyed being a Hunting Guide in Maine for years.  Ivan never met a stranger; he was a friend to everyone.

Surviving is his son, Grantley Hoilman; goddaughter, Jessi Jones and husband, Sammy, and god grandson, Logan Ollis, all of Roaring Creek; brothers: Russell Hoilman and wife, Gail, of Lick Log and Herbert Hoilman and wife, Benny, of Roan Mountain, TN; and a sister, Evelyn Hoilman of Newland.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held in Roaring Creek Freewill Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29th with Pastors Ken Staton and Russell Hoilman officiating.  Private burial will be in the Hughes Cemetery.
