Marvin Buchanan of Connelly Springs passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on February 2, 2023.
He was born March 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Samuel Cloephus Buchanan and Bertie Robinson Buchanan. He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 32 years, Shirley McAllister Buchanan, brothers: Edison, Claude, Leland, Ray and Emory Buchanan; sisters: Elise Cassidy, Annie Dover, and June Laws.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters: Tammy Austin (LD) and Vickie Reeves (Alex) both of Hickory; grandchildren: Alexandra (Lexie) Elizabeth Reeves of Charlotte, Zachary Buchanan Reeves of Charlotte and Samuel Adrian Reeves of Raleigh; brothers: Jack Buchanan (Doris) of Maryland, Vernon Buchanan (Angie) of Spruce Pine; sister, Glenna Dellinger of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Elaine Dellinger (Charles) of Burnsville and a number of special nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish his memory are Sandy Harmon of Hildebran, Billy Hyatt of Hildebran, Tina Milam of Hildebran, Kylie Benham of Hildebran, Donna Norris of Valdese, Holly Norris of St. Augustine, Florida, and his special canine companion of 9 years, Ranger.
Marvin worked with some of his best friends at Burlington Industries in Rhodhiss for many years and retired from Century Furniture. He enjoyed gardening and farming and especially loved his horses.
A memorial service will be held Monday February 6, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Bass Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with Marty Childers officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice or the ALS Foundation.
The family would especially like to thank Megan and the wonderful staff at Hospice Catawba Valley.
