Property Taxes

Yes, you are correct the commissioners are not responsible for the 8 year revaluation schedule, but they could follow Madison County’s example and go to a 4 year revaluation schedule. 8 years is too long for re evaluations in these times. We survived the 2008 revaluation/market flooding of exceptional sales of properties in our county. We started rebounding from that in 2016 revaluation and now we are in another cycle where people from all over the world are coming to Yancey County and purchasing land and homes at triple the 2016 schedule of values. January 1 2024 revaluation values are going to be influenced by these exceptionally high sales again.
