Ivelyne Murphy, age 82, of Huntdale Road on Green Mountain, passed away on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at 7:10 p.m. at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, surrounded by several family members, nurses and staff.
A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Gustie Haney Murphy. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Wade Murphy, and a nephew, Wade Stevie Murphy.
Ivelyne was faithful to Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church where she had many friends. After going to the nursing facility, she never failed to ask about the church.
Surviving are four brothers: Wayne and wife, Emma Ann Murphy of Lenoir, Willie and wife, Frankie Murphy of Erwin, TN, Dean and wife, Etta Murphy of Green Mountain, and Kenneth and wife, Judy Murphy of Bakersville, as well as a sister-in-law, Jeanette Austin Murphy whom she loved very much. She also leaves behind seven wonderful nieces, eight nephews, and three step-nieces and step-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Brother Danny Lee Murphy will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 23rd in the Band Mill Cemetery.
The Murphy family would like to thank everyone at Yancey House, Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, and Hospice of the Blue Ridge for all the wonderful care given to Ivelyne during her time with them, but are especially thankful for the love that was shown to their sister.
