Arrest and Recovery of Multiple Stolen Items

On February 11th, Sergeant Joe Pate with the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop which led to the recovery of multiple stolen items and the arrest of Matthew Edward Carr of Marion.

A five-month multi-county investigation into multiple breaking and entering locations in multiple counties led to additional charges being issued. Multiple items have been recovered that were stolen from multiple locations in three counties.

Detective Brandon Wilson charged Carr with Simple Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance, Felony Larceny, Felony Second Degree Burglary, Felony Possession of Firearm by a Felon, Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny after Break/Enter, Felony Possession of Burglary Tools, Felony Possession Stolen Goods/Property, (2) Counts Felony Poss RCV Stolen Property Cert Fel.

Additional search warrants have been issued and executed on other property owned by Carr, leading to the recovery of many more stolen items. Additional charges are forthcoming at this time.  More arrest warrants have been issued for additional suspects.

“I am grateful that deputies and detectives from multiple agencies were able to work together to arrest the subject responsible for multiple breaking and entering’s in Yancey County as well as neighboring counties.” Sheriff Shane Hilliard said.
