Scott Franklin, age 33, of Meadow Lane in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton.
Born on July 4, 1989 in Mitchell County, he was the son of Steral Franklin and Sabra Sullins.
Scott was a member of Pine Branch Baptist Church and a 2007 graduate of Mitchell High School. He was a member of the Mountaineer track team where he threw the discus and shot put. He was employed by the North Carolina Department of Corrections with ten years of service. Scott enjoyed making people laugh, playing video games and taking trips to Disney World in Florida.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother; Sabra Sullins of Spruce Pine; his father; Steral Franklin and wife, Brenda of Spruce Pine; his brother; Greg Franklin of Denver, NC; his half-sister; Kelly Lee of Sacramento, CA; his maternal grandmother; Doris Sullins of Spruce Pine; his fiancé; Ashley Robertson and her children; Addison, Allison, and Amara of Spruce Pine; his forever sister; Ashley Wise, her husband, Brooks and their children; Brooklyn and Brody of Raleigh; his maternal aunts; Sarah Sullins and Susan Gardin and husband, Bryan all of Spruce Pine; his paternal uncle; Wayne Franklin of Beckley, WV; his paternal aunt; Frances Wilson of Marion; and numerous friends at the Avery-Mitchell Correctional Facility that he considered family.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Pine Branch Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Pine Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. Jody Griffin and Bruce Cannon officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with honors provided by the North Carolina Department of Corrections Honor Guard.
