A news release from Madison County Authorities is reporting the body of a 64-year-old Madison County man who was last seen Feb. 18th has been found. Phillip Shelton’s family members said he had gone fishing with his dog on the French Broad River that day. One of Shelton’s friends said he found Shelton’s vehicle at about 5:30 p.m., on the 18th, parked at the pull-off where he said Shelton typically puts in his canoe in the river. Shelton’s dog, Zip, was found running loose near his car. Crews spent days searching the river for Shelton.
Madison County Manager Rod Honeycutt said Shelton’s body was found just below Redmon Dam and recovered by Walnut Fire Department Water Rescue Team about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management and Marshall and Walnut fire departments responded in support of the recovery operation.
