Donnie Frank Buchanan

Donnie Frank Buchanan went to be with Jesus on Monday, March 6, 2023. He is no longer suffering and will never see pain again.

He is preceded in death by a son, Donnie Scott Buchanan; his parents, Frank and Allie Buchanan; his parents-in-law, Rev. Charlie and Irene McMahan; sister, Gaylene Zimmer; and sister-in-law, Jean Buchanan.

Having pastored churches in Yancey, Mitchell, and McDowell and always attempting to do what God called him to do, his labors are now over and he is at peace. Donnie was also a highly decorated veteran, having been a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and both Marksman and Sharpshooter ribbons. His greatest goal on Earth was to be known by all as “my friend.”

He is survived by Judy McMahan Buchanan, his loving wife of 53 years; daughter, Tressa Biddix; sister, Brenda Callaway (Bill); brothers, Keith Buchanan (Gail), and Mike Buchanan; grandchildren: Nikki Biddix, Bethany Briggs, and Donnie Kyle Brown; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister-in-law, Linda Huskins (Bill); brothers-in-law: Dennis McMahan (Betty), Daniel McMahan (Dorris) David McMahan (Sandra) and Nathaniel McMahan; also surviving is numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Clay Mound Baptist Church Cemetery at 3 o’clock. Rev. David Edwards will officiate.

Viewing will be held 30 minutes prior to service time.
