Carmen Lee Willis, 62, of 3690 Penland Road, Spruce Pine passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents Burl and Arzella Willis; brother, Darren Willis; sister, Pamela McCoury, and a nephew, Jason Hughes.
Carmen was a member of Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church. He was veteran of the US Army and had previously been employed with Unimin Corporation. He loved hunting and going to football and basketball games before an accident left him unable to do these things. He still enjoyed sitting on the deck observing the many deer that would walk through and looking at his beautiful flowers. Carmen loved reading the Bible and sharing his faith with family and friends who called or came to visit. He is now walking with the Lord and is no longer in pain.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Geri DeGroat Willis; step-daughter, Tamara Fowler; brother, Jerry Willis; sisters: Deborah Robinson and Karen Chandler. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Charlie Parsons, who was like a brother to him, along with several nieces and nephews.
Services for Carmen will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Officiating will be Reverends Dallas Renfro and Chris Greene. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
