I knew a man that was in the military out west during the Cuban Crisis, early 1960s, he told me that he and three other people were on a hill looking toward the military base about dark one evening. They saw something in the sky hovering over the base. The object was making some maneuvers that at that time we did not have aircraft with that capability. He said they went back to the base and were discussing what they had seen. Word got to their superior officers about their story and they were called in, discharged from the military and were told to go home and never discuss it with anyone, that if they did the outcome would not be good for them. The man that told this story has since passed away, I have often wondered if there were other people discharge from the military for telling anyone they saw a UFO.
