Weapons have been going into the wrong hands since at least when the Reagan administration sold them to Iran to be able to use the money to fund right wingers oppressing people in Central America. Those who hate, those who defend innocents or those oppose hate using weapons are often confused intentionally through disinformation or unintentionally through misinformation. And while it is a fact that the American “military industrial complex,” to quote Ike, is pretty screwed up, it’s also a fact that the screw up is a bipartisan project. Whereas the Reagan administration were intentional about their screwed up project, more recently it was just screwed up without intention. I am hard pressed to comment on which is worse, frankly.
It’s also a fact that when authoritarians are overrunning countries in which they have no business, sometime that screwed up military industrial complex is all we’ve got to make sure they don’t decide to make their authoritarian takeover a worldwide project.
