Richard A. Gehrman age 92 of Ingalls passed away Wednesday March 29, 2023, at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.
He was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on November 6, 1930. After high school he served in the US Army for three years during the Korean War. Upon completing a degree at Northland College, he worked as a Claims Adjuster for State Farm Insurance Company and later worked in Management for thirty-five years in Miami and West Palm Beach, FL.
Richard planted a garden yearly and fed his wild birds daily, he created bird houses and other objects out of wood. He felt at peace living his retirement years in the North Carolina Mountains.
Mr. Gehrman is survived by his wife of sixty six years Dana of the home, a son, Richard Gehrman of Hawthorne, NV, daughters, Amy Hughes (Stan) of Gray, TN and Elizabeth Greene of Marion, NC, grandchildren, who were very important to his life, Jarrod Hughes, Stacy Hughes, Browne Ingram and Hannah Diem, a special niece Holly Blevins and daughter Liesse of Daytona Beach, FL who was also part of his family. He is also survived eight great grandchildren who visited every year, Abigail Hughes, Summer and Brooke Rosenbaum, Scarlett Marshall, Calvin Diem, Sam, Tessa and Sawyer Ingram.
The family would like to extend a Thank You to the staff of the Mitchell House for the care Richard received during the last three months.
