Stanley Crain, age 72, of the Bald Creek Community, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 1st, 2023 at his home.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Bill and Pauline Crain. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Valda Crain and a half brother, Ronald Tomberlin.
Stanley was a very talented artist and musician who loved making crafts, knives, walking sticks, playing the guitar, the drums, and for several years sang in a band. He enjoyed working and detailing cars, fishing, camping, and hunting. He also loved children and all animals, but especially loved feeding his squirrels.
Surviving is his loving wife, Vadia Silvers Crain; daughters, Tonya Renee Crain of Asheville and Tammie Dean Crain of Mine Fork; step-daughters, Faith Burke of Altapass, Charity Franklin (Andy) of Kingsport, TN, and Kennedy Atwood of Spruce Pine; step-son, Billy Biggs of Greeneville, TN; sisters, Scarlett Bradley of Asheville, Doris Lyda (Richard) of Possum Trot, Nadine Shelton (Kenneth) of Mars Hill, Donna Kay Crain of Jacks Creek, and Mary Ann Grindstaff of Green Mountain; brothers, Charles Crain of Possum Trot and Morris Crain (Denise) of Jacks Creek and a brother-in-law, Timmy Grindstaff of Green Mountain. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
