A two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in McDowell County claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital.
McDowell County Emergency Services Director William J. Kehler said the crash occured shortly before 3 p.m. when a commercial van collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 221 South at Mudcut Road.
EMS paramedics pronounced one person dead at the scene and transported another to Mission Hospital McDowell in stable condition. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
