Safety is about children not killing themselves or members of their family with guns that any responsible conservative gun owner knows should not have been loaded within reach of a child. Safety is about someone who is mentally ill getting the help they need and deserve instead of a gun. Safety is about not arming teachers you don’t even trust to make decisions about what books to have in their classrooms. Safety is about not “trusting” them with a lethal weapon around kids. Control is what happens when authoritarians plant distrust of everyone and everything in the minds of people who then don’t trust their neighbors or anyone else. Genocide is what often is allowed to happen when the authoritarians succeed in pitting one group of human being against the others by confusing the meaning of words like safety, control and genocide.
